How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?

One of my favorite parts of the yoga tradition is that we refer to it as a practice. We don’t “do” yoga, we practice yoga--in whatever form that takes--an intense asana sequence, or a breathing or meditation exercise (or, preferably, all three). As with any skill that is practiced, there are times when yoga feels opening and revelatory and "easy." And there are times when it feels like a struggle, when aches or pains, chronic or new, seem to flare up, or when our minds just can't seem to quiet down. During the latter, it's good to remember that the benefits of yoga don't come only from one particularly wonderful session. Instead, the benefits accumulate and vary over time.  And the only way we can fully experience those benefits is through practice, practice, practice.
