Oopsie
After my Monday class a few weeks ago, I was looking forward to seeing an old friend who now lives in another state. When I was walking to meet her, I hit some black ice and landed on my back. I'm grateful that I had just come from practicing/teaching: my body was warmed up and loose, and I was in a yoga mindset--instead of fighting to stay up, I just released a little and let myself fall. When I got back to my feet, I stretched and moved around a bit just to make sure I was still intact! Happily, I was fine! I do think that the physical preparedness and mental landscape that yoga provided helped keep me from injury. I hope none of you have to test this out during this icy winter. But do know that whether you're slipping on the ice or finding some other unexpected challenge (physical or otherwise) that yoga can always help to ease your fall.
